p>When the mobile-based Minecraft Earth was announced last year, it immediately drew comparisons to Pokemon Go because of its use of Augmented Reality and location-based games. But it was very different (as senior editor Jess Conditt will attest) because it didn't require players to leave your home to partake in the mining and building game. Now, Mattel has added another game element to Minecraft Earth that Pokemon Go isn't able to boast of: NFC-enabled toys.

p>The Boost Mini figurines are priced at $5 each. They will feature several characters from the Minecraft franchise that include Steve, Alex, creepers ducks, a cow and others. Each figurine is adorable on its own. However, if you put it in contact with an NFC-enabled device, unique abilities will be granted within Minecraft Earth for a specified time. The timer will be displayed on the screen. You'll also earn XP by registration of the mini with the game, which is an additional incentive to collect them all (or borrow them from your friends).

p>The first batch of the spring season includes 20 minis that have 10 abilities. And, if you are the type of person who wants to take your Minecraft Earth game out and out, Mattel is also selling an accessory case in the shape of a potion, which can be clipped to your belt.

p>Mattel has announced new $3.50 blind-box minis themed to the classic Minecraft. They also have larger figures of 3.5 inches that tie in with the forthcoming Minecraft Dungeons.
