p>Hacker group LulzSec the same group that has been a target of Sony and Nintendo in the past, has tweeted that it's committed three distributed denial of service attacks on gaming businesses today, which resulted in the shut down of EVE Online's Tranquility server as well as Minecraft's multiplayer services, as well as the website of the Escapist Magazine. EVE Online's CCP confirmed the attack and outage. The Escapist website isn't available currently. Minecraft creator Notch said that the service was restored, but that it was down.

p>LulzSec hasn't yet revealed the reason behind the attacks however we can guess, as they say, "for teh lulz."

p>Update The group has taken on Riot Games' League of Legends servers too. The login screen of the game displays a message saying that the server is in operation. However Riot Games hasn't yet confirmed this message.

p>Update: Statement from CCP following the break. EVE Online seems to still be down.

p>At 17:00 GMT today, CCP became aware of a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) attack on the EVE Online cluster and web servers.
