p>Minecraft creator on Microsoft deal: 'It's about my sanity'

/p>

p>Shortly after it was announced that Microsoft was buying Minecraft Mojang developer for $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) The Swedish developer behind the title Markus Persson - known as Notch published his own personal message on the acquisition. We have copied it as a whole below:

/p>

p>Mojang is leaving me

/p>

p>I don't consider myself to be an actual game developer. I make games because it's enjoyable and because I am a gamer and I am a programmer however I don't create games with the goal of them becoming huge hits and I don't set out to change the world.

/p>

p>Minecraft was certainly a huge success, and people are telling me it's changed games. I didn't intend for it to do that. It's certainly gratifying and to slowly get thrust into some kind of public spotlight is interesting.

/p>

p>A while ago, I made the decision to retire from Minecraft development. Jens was the perfect person to lead the project, and I was eager to explore things that were completely new. In the beginning, I failed by trying to make something huge again, but since I decided to stick to small prototypes and fun challenges, I've had much fun with work.

/p>

p>Although I wasn't certain how I would fit in to Mojang, where work was actually done, people told me I was important for the culture, and I decided to stay.

/p>

p>A few weeks ago, I was suffering from a terrible cold at home. The internet went wild with hate about me for a EULA situation that I had nothing. I was confused. I didn't understand. https://www.pearltrees.com/fiberpeanut6/item467182952 I tweeted my frustration.

/p>

p>Later I went through the This is Phil Fish YouTube video and realized that I didn't feel the same connection I thought I had with my fans. I've become a symbol. I do not want to be a figurehead, responsible for something huge that I don't know or do not want to work on, that is always resurfacing to me. I'm not an entrepreneur. I'm not a CEO. I'm a geeky computer programmer who loves to share opinions on Twitter.

/p>

p>When the deal is completed, I will be leaving Mojang and will return to web-based experiments and Ludum Dares. If I happen to create something that appears to gain momentum, I'll probably end the project immediately.

/p>

p>Given my public image, which is already a bit distorted by me, I don’t expect to be able to ignore negative comments however, at least I won’t feel the need to look them up.

/p>

p>I'm aware that this is in contradiction to my previous statements stated in public. I don't have an answer to this. I am also aware that a lot of you have used me as a symbol of some perceived struggle. I'm not. I'm a person and I'm struggling with you.

/p>

p>I love you. Every one of you. Thank you for turning Minecraft into what it has become however there are far too many of you, and I'm not able to be the sole person to be responsible for something this massive. In one sense, it's a part belonging to Microsoft currently. In a more broad sense, it's been a part of everyone for a long time, and that won't change.

/p>

p>It's not all about money. It's about my mental wellbeing.

/p>
