p>Minecraft to aid UN regeneration projects

p>Development plans for 300 places across the globe are being developed in Minecraft so that the residents can decide how the places will be changed.

p>Called Block by Block, the program is an alliance between Minecraft maker Mojang and UN Habitat.

p>One of the first places that was modelled in Minecraft as part of a pilot program for Block by Block is the Undugu playground - part of the Kibera Slum area located on the outskirts of Nairobi.

p>Fyre UK, a Minecraft modeling company, has recreated Undugu on a computer. Soon, the people who live around the playground will be able to go to it to check out the UN's plans to regenerate it.

p>Minecraft is set in a world made of cubes, each of which is composed of the different virtual materials - dirt, stone, diamond, iron ore and the list goes on. The game requires you to stack the cubes, and then break them into their raw materials. This lets you create artifacts and objects.

p>The ease at that the real world could be modeled in Minecraft has prompted UN Habitat to approach Mojang to help it with its plans for urban regeneration according to Ms Winters.

p>In 2016, 300 of the areas UN Habitat plans to remodel will be recreated in Minecraft allowing the people who live in those places to be involved in the process of how their neighborhood will be transformed.

p>Ms. Winters said, "It's bringing together decision makers and youth to decide on an agreement for public places around the globe."
