p>Isle of Cumbrae recreated in video game Minecraft

p>The Isle of Cumbrae has been recreated in the video game Minecraft as part of a plan to engage young people with the area's heritage.

/p>

p>Students at Abertay University in Dundee built Cumbraecraft inspired by the well-known Ayrshire coast tourist destination.

/p>

p>The game has eight lessons targeted at children in primary school.

/p>

p>The virtual island has locations such as Garrison House, Lion Rock and Cathedral of the Isles.

/p>

p>You can also explore Crocodile Rock and the Port in the game.

/p>

p>It was designed to be used in both classroom and home-learning settings.

/p>

p>The project was developed by Romain Bourdon, Fergus Coyne, and Claire Monaghan (Games students), while they were studying at Abertay’s School of Design and Informatics.

/p>

p>Due to the current travel restrictions, the group was not able to visit the island prior to the time they began their work and were forced to use images as their sole point of reference.

/p>

p>The game is part of a rehabilitation program that is being implemented by North Ayrshire Council and Historic Environment Scotland.

/p>

p>She added, "Cumbrae has such an interesting history and it's so important that our children are aware of their community's history and culture."

p>"Our Millport Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme has been a real success in preserving the island's history, and Cumbraecraft has allowed us to reach out to a younger audience."
