p>A little over a year after bringing Minecraft Earth in the US, Microsoft announced this week that it will end the game later this year. Minecraft Earth players will have until June 30, 2021 to play the augmented reality title. It's no longer available for download from app marketplaces and it's not available for purchase.

p>Developer Mojang Studios attributed the shutdown to the coronavirus pandemic, and all the changes to daily life that it has brought. "Minecraft Earth was designed around free movement and collaborative play which have become near impossible in the current global situation," the studio said. Like Niantic with Pokemon Go, Mojang had modified the game to make it easier to play at home. Those changes clearly weren't enough.

The studio is rolling out one final update to Minecraft Earth, which it claims contains changes "to ensure that your time on Minecraft Earth enjoyable as it can be." In addition to other improvements that the update removes the use of real money transactions and significantly reduces the amount of time it will take players to design and build things within the game. It also gives players the chance to look at all the content Mojang was working on before the announcement today. Mojang has stated that they hope these changes will allow players to play, create, explore, and share more while staying safe inside.

p>After June 30th comes and ends, Microsoft will delete player data on July 1st. https://minecraftservers.cc/ If you spent money in Minecraft Earth at any point during the life of the game, you'll be given an item that allows you to download the Bedrock edition of Minecraft on your mobile device. p>This is a disappointing conclusion for Minecraft Earth for Microsoft. Microsoft had high expectations for the game when it first shown in action at WWDC 2019. It's not a great indicator for consumers who will be using AR applications in the future that Minecraft Earth was unable to survive the pandemic with all the resources Microsoft has.
