p>The most recent company to take a stand against non-fungible tokens: Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely popular video game Minecraft.

p>In a statement released today on the official Minecraft website, which is titled "Minecraft and NFTs," the company made it crystal clear that it would not allow any sort of blockchain or NFT integration with its game.

p>Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a few reasons as to why they're opposed to NFTs. They also stated that fake shortage plays a significant part in it. NFTs, also known as digital assets or non-fungible tokens, are digital assets stored on a blockchain. The token is unique and linked to an media file to declare ownership of that piece, which turns NFTs into speculative assets.

p>The statement clarifies that Minecraft is not against monetizing, and uses the example of users charging for access to the Minecraft server as an acceptable use case. However, because NFTs would change the gameplay dynamics and give players with financial means an upperhand in-game, the Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.

p>"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs that are associated with any game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or any other mods," declares the statement.

p>The developer also raised concerns about the credibility of third-parties who mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendency to abandon projects, and to fraudulently raise prices on the NFT aftermarkets.

p>"No blockchain for block game," as Molly White of the website Web3 is Going Great succinctly put it. The website tracks scams, frauds and drama in the Web3 world. This includes NFT projects as well as cryptocurrencies.

p>As White mentions that the value of current (and not-approved) Minecraft NFT projects tanked on the news of Mojang Studios' statement. NFT Worlds which is also associated with tokens, saw both the value of the token as well as its NFT floor prices plummet by more than 70 percent.

p>Minecraft's Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to operate far away from NFTs. Gamers have made it clear that they hate the idea of purchasing NFTs in addition to the games they already buy. And their skepticism towards NFTs has made it necessary for the industry to follow suit. Sony just announced Playstation Stars, a loyalty program that rewards gamers with digital collectibles. These digital collectibles are not NFTs, as the company said.

p>"It's absolutely not NFTs. Absolutely not. It is not possible to trade or sell them. It's not leveraging any Blockchain technologies and certainly not NFTs." Grace Chen, Sony's director of network advertising and loyalty spoke to The Washington Post.

p>Mojang Studios ended its statement by saying that they will keep track of the progress of blockchain technology for future use cases. However, this opens the door to potential uses based on existing possibilities. But, at least for the foreseeable future, chalk up another win for gamers who hate NFTs.
