Minecraft Marketplace for Community creators By Steffan Powell Newsbeat reporter

10 April 2017

Minecraft hopes to make it easier for players to get hold of the content created by community creators and fans.

Many users already build intricate worlds to explore, adventure games to play or even modify the game itself to give completely new experiences within it.

Now , they'll be able sell their content directly through the game itself in the brand new Minecraft Marketplace. https://controlc.com/42e9f4a14

Producer John Thornton told Newsbeat that the platform was designed to assist entrepreneurs in starting businesses.

Until now people who create adventure maps skin packs for characters, or experiences for the game haven't been allowed to sell directly to other players.

Only officially licensed Minecraft content could be sold that way, but it hasn't stopped some players from making a living from the game.

James Delaney, is founder of the group of Minecraft creators called Blockworks and has created a successful business despite the limitations.

The Marketplace is a good thing for him.

He told Newsbeat that he hopes it could be the start of a regular and steady income.

"In the past we've been relying on commissions to come in but you're not certain when that will happen."

He is the responsible person for 62 creators who work in 20 countries.

Their main source of income is from the creation of Minecraft-based material for educational and marketing campaigns.

James "got really into" making Minecraft maps with his online friends, and realized in the following years that it was feasible to earn money from it.

"At at least we know that there's a market for our content," he says.

"If it succeeds, we know that we will be able to work on a regular and stable basis."

"Also it's content we can decide to create, rather than being required to create which means we have creative control over it in this regards."

The marketplace will launch later in the year and will be accessible on Windows 10 and Pocket versions of the game.

This means that the majority of Minecraft players worldwide, estimated at 120 million gamers, will be able to play the game. However, console gamers won't.

"Our idea is to connect our players with creators," says John Thornton.

"On Pocket edition it can be tricky to get content onto devices, which means it's difficult for creators to show off content they want to share with the world. https://morris-craft.blogbright.net/how-minecrafts-custom-maps-are-changing

"By connecting creators to the marketplace , it'll make it much easier for users to find something they'd like to play with, purchase it and have it on their devices."

Players will have access to them for free, meaning players can still make community experiences.

Producers hope that people will pay more for content that is easy to locate.

John says, "If you want people to share your content now, you need to put it somewhere online and inform them of the location."

"You can use existing social networks to accomplish this, but it's more efficient if you incorporate that into the game."

"Players can interact with the things they want in the context of the game they enjoy."

He hopes that the game will allow James to start an enterprise that is successful.

The Minecraft team is launching the new service with nine creators from across the world to begin with.

The central Minecraft team will be monitoring the adventure maps, skin packs, and other experiences to ensure that they are suitable for the audience of the game.

Find us on Instagram at BBCNewsbeat and follow us on Snapchat, search for bbc_newsbeat
