the whole 1980s-early 90s era headphones & mic set up, the severe square headed ‘cross’ library ‘tude with all the squawk, squawk, all sort of married to her mama’s PJ’s just made me too excited for all the Hawtness.

LOL! She was very severe – talking out of one side of her mouth like Edward G Robinson (only us mature folks will know who that is) and yet fussing with her bangs. Squawk squawk indeed. I’ve watched the whole damned interview, which is close to an hour. She really is a Debbie Downer – when she talks about slut walks being funny I felt like they were anything but – she seems to laugh in all the wrong places.

On behalf of Canada and Canadians, I apologize for those nasty visuals in Toronto that you all had to bare witness to. Excuse me while I hang my flag at half mast.

Hope:

Telling young women to be aware of groups of young minority males in poor inner city neighborhoods is perfectly fine. Even though rapists are a minority among them, fact is you are playing your odds. Of course at the same time you tell her to beware of drunken men outside of bars and etc.

Feminists are afraid of going down the slippery slope of holding women accountable for anything. I’ve already had someone tweet: “why do we not examine male’s attitudes about rape instead of women’s dress?” As I replied, it’s not either or. Go ahead and think creatively about ways of deterring or discouraging rape. But if you’re a woman at risk, you don’t really have the luxury of waiting until these re-education programs work. And there’s only one way to be safe now, and that’s to keep yourself safe. Don’t tempt men whose attitudes are criminal now and not changing anytime soon.

I am skeptical that any sort of re-education is going to deter rape. Most men are not rapists, and if anyone comes away from this situation thinking “men really need to be changed” they’ve missed the boat. They cry victim blaming, I’d like them to not blame an entire gender for what a few criminals did to them.

@Hope

Clarence already addressed your question in a satisfactory way. Racists are the ones who look at prison/crime statistics and bemoan that minorities are disproportionately represented. They ignore the fact that it is a fairly accurate representation of demographics.
