First, I’ll say that I agree that Gloria Steinem looks great. In fact, I think she looks more attractive than she did when young. It’s true that she was a Playboy bunny, but that look she rocked with the frosted hair and aviators, although iconoclastic, was not attractive. However, she was far more attractive than her colleague Betty Friedan – who also managed to become a very recognizable face in her time. . One thing that makes a huge difference is plastic surgery. GS doesn’t look as if she’s had any. Janice Dickinson looks like a freak. It’s ironic, but IMO women age far better without it. Face lifts just create a tight old look, not a young look. They also tend to create Nancy Pelosi eyes. I would much rather look at a woman like GS or Helen Mirren, aging with grace. . Another thing is that women who are too thin age poorly. GS is very thin, so this doesn’t apply to her, but older women tend to look better with a little more padding than when they were young. It prevents the face from looking gaunt and skull-like. The worst thing is when older women have tiny arms and skinny backs, with bird wings sticking out. They look like they might snap in two. On your comment about thin women becoming gaunt as they age, i gather that a lot of older women have an expression along the lines of “you have to choose between your face and your ass” – meaning that you must either get a fat ass or a gaunt face. Someone needs to tell them they’d be better off allowing a little junk in the trunk rather than turning into scare crows. A pleasant face with a little something to spank makes a much better combo than than a screaming skull with a flat bony butt. [Reply]
