grandmother always says good friends will tell you what they want to hear. But great friends will tell you what you do not want to hear. She being a wise woman of 78 is always correct.

I find a lot of my friends usually tell me what I want to hear. No one wants to hear the truth sometimes...about what I’m doing....what I need to do with my life.....pointing out the patterns in my life. Sometimes if you really love someone you have to do the right thing...even if that means doing something painful...letting them go....setting them straight...telling them they hurt you...or calling it the way it is....”you’re an asshole.”

Or in my case telling me what I’m doing wrong....in terms of love, relationships, sex and behavior. I usually do not take criticism very well. But I was blown away by the honest of this friend. I know in a few years I will send him a note thanking him for telling me the truth. Telling me what I needed to know...instead of what I wanted to hear.

It’s brave to take that risk. Change is never easy. Humans like comfort...and the unknown is scary. It’s work to have a good body...to eat healthy...to find love. So some of us....slack off....we snack...load of on sweets...and do unhealthy things.

So I felt like the truth slapped me in the face. The words are not important but the message was received loud and clear. Now, it’s my turn to step up. It wont happen overnight but it is all about that journey...starting with some baby steps.
